Pianist is a virtual piano for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Use it as a musical scratchpad when away from the studio, or as an instrument to jam with your friends.
Realistic graphics
See realistic 3D keys really move as you press them. A 'pianola' effect moves keys in time with recorded notes when they are played back.
Apply virtual 'soft' or 'sustain' pedals to the sound. The volume of each key played can be set depending on where you press that key, allowing you to add further expression.
User-friendly navigation
Navigate the full 88 key piano keyboard with easy-to-use scroll buttons. Scroll by single keys or a whole octave. Set up your keyboard at the start of the tune, and scroll while playing, or even while holding down chords. Optionally label the keys of the piano to aid navigation. You can configure Pianist to label just the left key, all the keys, or all the keys with a colour indicating the octave.
Zoomable keys
Zoom in or out of the keyboard. Pianist can display anywhere from one to two octaves horizontally on screen. A smaller number of keys means a larger target for your fingers and makes it easier to play chords. A larger number of keys means you can reach more notes when playing live without having to scroll the screen. Different songs require different approaches. Pianist can be configured to display a second keyboard onscreen to allow you to reach even more notes. At maximum settings, you can reach the full four octaves without needing to scroll once.
Metronome
Pianist includes a configurable metronome to allow you to stay in time. Set the tempo and beats per bar, then have the metronome play while you are recording a track, or disable it entirely.
It's your choice.
Multi-track Recording
Performances can be recorded and overdubbed multiple times to create the perfect song, which can be saved for later playback. Being able to actually record your tune brings a whole new level to playing. Take time to make the perfect recording to show off to your mates. Or pre-record whole songs or backing tracks ready for that 'live' performance.
Intuitive and visually appealing setup
All the settings options for Pianist are designed to look like a collection of real world objects rather than a lifeless and confusing list of 'configuration items'. Change volume with a realistic volume slider. Change system parameters by tapping on a visual representation of a notepad. Simple ideas that help to distance you from the act of operating a computer and keep in the creative zone.
Hi-Res graphics on iPhone 4
Pianist will run happily on all models of iPhone and iPod Touch, but on the iPhone 4 it really comes to life with amazing high resolution textures that bring an unprecedented level of clarity and sharpness. Take a look at this full-sized screenshot of Pianist running on the iPhone 4 and imagine that level of detail on a 3.5inch screen.
